This is a single page application that presents a unique experience of the drinking anthem, “99 Bottles of Beer on the Wall”.
With my passion for Interactive Design, Art, and Illustration. This was my first attempt hand-coding an app using vanilla JavaScript—adding more depth to my HTML5, and CSS3 animations.
I chose a stupid idea. I was sure that thousands of computer scientists have already devised the logic in classes, and I could look up code examples to show me how to do it if I got stuck. But, I decided early on that I was not going to look at anyone else’s version of it. I wanted to force myself to think through and practice. Slow, but it’s how I master most things—I don’t automatically follow the best practice, because I don’t know how to judge if someone else’s best practice because everyone I have met in development has a different opinions about many things. I don’t like to copy other people’s style, unless that is the assignment in which case I am all in—take shortcuts if you want to learn.
The logic was tougher than I thought it would be, because of all the transitions that had to be time-managed on and off stage.
the visual interactions and animations evolve so the form feel and functionality work well together and are easy to change the look over time, I hope.
It took much longer than planned and needs some work, some refactoring and maybe an app. Still learning more every day.
It is a stupid app, but a challenge to do something interesting, maybe humorous with the stupidest song ever. Mostly, so I could focus on the coding logic and interactions.
I am sure there are samples out there, but
(Important, I am not promoting drinking, especially for high-schoolers. I’ve taken down my last beer.)
